Following on from their successful collaboration with Radio 4 with the series telling the history of the world with 100 objects from their collections, the British Museum have now collaborated with the Department of Education to list 100 objects from museums around the country. These will be available on line for schools to use to teach the history of Britain. The good news for the Museum is that one of our objects is on the list – the Norman tableman. This is a game counter made from walrus ivory and dates from between 1150 and 1190.
