Royal visit

HRH Princess Beatrice of York visited the Museum on Monday, June 16th.  She posed for a picture beneath the portrait of her namesake, Princes Beatrice, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria and was then shown round the Museum by Johanna Jones, the widow of a previous curator.  Johanna had lived in the Curator’s flat on site and was able to explain the layout of the building when the older  Princess Beatrice had used the Castle as her summer residence in her role as Governor of the Isle of Wight.  After viewing items from the collections brought out for the occasion, the younger princess signed the visitors’ book before moving on to look at Princess Beatrice’s Garden.
