The Island’s own war horse, Warrior, was posthumously awarded the Dickin Medal in a ceremony at the Imperial War Museum last week. This is the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross, created by the PDSA. You can see his story in the current exhibition, ‘Men and horses go to war’.
