Plan your visit to Carisbrooke Castle Museum

Admission to the Museum is included with the English Heritage entrance fee to Carisbrooke Castle. The English Heritage website gives further details of current prices.

Opening Times

  • Summer (from 1st April) – Monday to Sunday, 10.30-4.45 (last entry 4.30)
  • Winter (from 1st November) – Saturday and Sunday only, 10.30-3.45 (last entry 3.30)

The Carisbrooke Castle site (PO30 1XY) is located 1.25 miles from Newport, the County Town of the Isle of Wight.

Driving
A car park, managed by English Heritage, with parking for approx. 100 cars is situated 50-100 metres from site. Parking charges apply, please check the English Heritage website for current information. For Sat Nav use postcode : PO30 1XY
Public transport
Buses stopping in Carisbrooke High Street include the numbers 7, 12, 38 and 27 (summer only). Alternatively the number 6 stops at the top of Cedar Hill, approx. 7mins walk from the Castle via Castle Hill. See the Southern Vectis website for further information.
On foot
Carisbrooke Castle is approximately 10mins walk from Carisbrooke High Street (via either Castle Lane or Spring Lane, then Castle Hill). Most of the route does not have a footpath and includes some steep sections.

Useful information for when you visit

Wheelchair access and assistance dogs

The ground-floor displays in the Lower Gallery of the Museum are on the same level and easily accessible. There are stairs to all of the Upper Gallery floors (at three levels). The main staircase is wide enough for a helper to assist any visitor with mobility difficulties. We allow assistance dogs into the museum.

Baby change and pushchairs

The ground floor of the museum can be explored with a pushchair. We are happy for you to leave pushchairs at the front desk while you access the upper floors of the museum. Baby changing facilities are available within the English Heritage-managed toilet block in the Castle courtyard.
