Plan your visit to Carisbrooke Castle Museum

Admission to the Museum is included with the English Heritage entrance fee to Carisbrooke Castle. The English Heritage website gives further details of current prices.

Opening Times

  • Summer (from 1st April) – Monday to Sunday, 10.30-4.45 (last entry 4.30)
  • Winter (from 1st November) – Saturday and Sunday only, 10.30-3.45 (last entry 3.30)

Location
The Carisbrooke Castle site (PO30 1XY) is located 1.25 miles from Newport, the County Town of the Isle of Wight. Follow the signs to Carisbrooke village, then signs to the castle.

Parking
There is onsite parking for around 150 cars, which is managed by English Heritage. There is a charge for parking however it is free for English Heritage members displaying a valid car sticker.
Distance from the car park to the Museum entrance is approximately 215 metres.
Bus Access
Southern Vectis 6 stops on Cedar Hill and 7, 12, and Summer Links (seasonal service) on Carisbrooke High Street approximately ½ mile from the Castle. Please check the  Southern Vectis Website for routes and timetables
Walking Access
The Museum is approximately 10 minutes’ walk from Carisbrooke High Street, either via Castle Street and Castle Lane or Spring Lane or Cedar Hill and then Castle Hill. The route is steep in places and most of the route does not have a footpath.
For ramblers and walkers Public Footpaths N88 and N89 link Froglands Lane to the Castle grounds near the car park.
Bicycle Access
Find your cycling route to Carisbrooke Castle Museum at sustrans.org.uk, the National Cycle Network. There are bike racks available at the site.
Ferry Access
If travelling by car booking the ferry is recommended. Take a look at isleofwightguru.co.uk for ferry discount offers.

Useful information for when you visit

Wheelchair access and assistance dogs

The ground-floor displays in the Lower Gallery of the Museum are on the same level and easily accessible. There are stairs to all of the Upper Gallery floors (at three levels). The main staircase is wide enough for a helper to assist any visitor with mobility difficulties. We allow assistance dogs into the museum.

Baby change and pushchairs

The ground floor of the museum can be explored with a pushchair. We are happy for you to leave pushchairs at the front desk while you access the upper floors of the museum. Baby changing facilities are available within the English Heritage-managed toilet block in the Castle courtyard.
