Upper Gallery: Island Stories

Occupying the upper floor of the Governor’s House, these galleries display objects from the museum’s collection which tell the stories of the people, places and ways of living from the Isle of Wight’s past.

Our collections have developed over more than one hundred years and consist of a wide variety of objects and themes relating to local history and Island life.

These displays occasionally change in order to tell different stories drawn from the collection and the island’s history.

Please note: This exhibition is housed in an upper room which is accessible only by stairs. Unfortunately, because the castle is a listed monument it is not possible to make adaptions to provide access to upper floors for those who have difficulty managing stairs.
